A few famous Boston songs for your listening pleasure!

  1. The Standells’ “Dirty Water” was released in 1966 and is a tribute to Boston’s then famously polluted Charles River. It is played at the end of every winning Red Sox home game.
  2. “Shipping Up To Boston” was written by Woody Guthrie and recorded by Boston’s famous hometown band the “Dropkick Murphys.” The song was featured in the movie “The Departed.”
  3. “Boston” by the one-hit-wonder band Augustana was released in 2005. The lyrics talk about moving to Boston and starting a new life.
  4. “Tessie” is both the longtime anthem of the Boston Red Sox and a 2004 song by the punk rock band Dropkick Murphys. The original “Tessie” was from the 1902 Broadway musical The Silver Slipper. The newer song, written in 2004, recounts how the singing of the original “Tessie” by the Royal Rooters fan club helped the Boston Americans win the first World Series in 1903. Source: Wikipedia
  5. “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond has no lyrics related to Boston but  is played (and raucously sung during by fans) in the middle of the eighth inning of every home Red Sox game.
