SLA Gives Back: Donations for the Northeast Animal Shelter

Post written by 2015 Annual Conference Advisory Council Chair, Tracy Maleeff.

dog-624269_640The Northeast Animal Shelter, established in 1976, is one of New England’s largest non-profit, no-kill animal shelters.  They have placed over 119,000 cats and dogs since they opened their doors. Northeast Animal Shelter receives no local, state or federal funding and is entirely dependent on contributions from the public to cover its annual operating budget.

In an effort to leave the Boston area a better place than we arrived for the conference, we are taking up a collection of funds for the Northeast Animal Shelter. A collection box will be at the New England Chapter table at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center during SLA 2015.

If you prefer to donate online, please do so here:

Help the Northeast Animal Shelter rescue even more pets in 2015! Your gift will support life-saving programs that find loving forever homes for homeless dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. Follow them on Twitter @NEAnimalShelter or Facebook at NortheastAnimalShelter.

SLA Gives Back: Toiletries for RESPOND Inc

RESPOND Inc., based in Somerville, MA, is New England’s first domestic violence agency and the second oldest in the nation. For over 40 years RESPOND has provided life-saving shelter, support services, training and education to more than 100,000 members of the community. Services are free and confidential, and available to all survivors of domestic abuse. RESPOND’s emergency hotline is 1-617-623-5900.

RESPOND Inc. also runs an emergency shelter that can hold 21 individuals at a time. The average length of stay is four months.  At SLA 2015 we will be collecting toiletries for RESPOND’s emergency shelter. Both full size and travel size toiletries are welcome — a perfect opportunity for SLA attendees to easily bring a few items from home or purhcase them while they are visiting Boston. Start collecting shampoo, conditioner, moisturizing lotion, facewash, soap and other toiletries now; RESPOND Inc. will put them to good use.

We will have a donation box at the SLA New England booth throughout the conference.
